I finally got around to sorting out a Media Player for the living room. I didn’t even have a DVD player in there so it was about time I got something. I bought the Buffalo Link Theatre (PC-P3LWG/DVD). It’s pretty good. There were a few disappointing things, mainly that it advertises a lot more features than it has in reality. Some of that will be fixed with later firmware though. They seem to offer great support, I’ve put myself down on the firmware beta testers list so that should be cool. There also seems to be a good community going with lots of info and help.

I also bought up a 400GB SATA HDD for the Shuttle. The 500GB was almost twice the price :o/. So now I have some of my music, films, TV shows and other various stuff on that HDD on the shuttle. I have the Buffalo server software on there too and the Link Theatre picks it all up over WiFi. Nice and neat :o) I need to get an external aerial for it so it works OK downstairs & in my room when the door’s shut. Buffalo have provided compatibility for this which is good. Region free-ing the DVD player was simple too, just a code on the remote. Invader Zim DVDs on my living-room TV at last :oD

Now I can watch whatever I like when I’m on the exercise bike which is sooooo handy. All that’s ever on after work are soaps or reality TV shows. Blergh. I need something to look at when I’m on my exercise bike and they just get me angry and bored.

It’s quite possible that I’ll end up finding a cupboard to put this PC in at some point and sticking *nix on it and making it a server with MythTV on there, at that point my parents can inherit the Link Theatre. It’s certainly easy enough for them to use.

I’m back onto it again. Addicted to PerplexCity. It’s evil. I’m gonna find myself spending all my money collecting cards and trying to solve them. Elucidate is bloody evil incarnate. What the hell is the answer to that?!?!
