Nicked from Paul & Olly:

Choose a band/artist and answer ONLY IN SONG TITLES by that band (you pick your own band or artist and don’t use the same one as somebody else):

Artist/Band: Acumen Nation
Are you male or female: Demasculator
Describe yourself: Ugly on the Inside
How do people feel about you: Just a Bastard
How do you feel about yourself: Ready to Die
Describe where you want to be: Parasite Mine
Describe what you want to be: Mothra
Describe how you want to live: Never the Bride
Describe how you love: Cowboy God (’Fuck Yer Brains Out’ was just too cliché)
Share a few words of wisdom: The Paralysis is Real

Ajax goodness

I’ve been randomly signing up to loads of the on-line Ajax apps that have been appearing for a while now. Some are a bit poo, some are OK and some are just bloody fantastic. Kiko is the latest one I’m raving about, but here’s my little recommended list:

Kiko - An on-line calendar, still in beta so a few bugs and it took an age for them to confirm my account, but it’s very, very good so far;

Anything by 37Signals. These guys really rock, everything they turn their hands too seems to be superb. Examples below:

Ruby on Rails - Opensource Web Framework;

BaseCamp - Project Management;

BackPack - Really cool personal organiser. Lists, pictures, tasks, etc.

Ta-da List - Really nice, simple, task lists.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten some, but I’ll add them later.

Grrrrr

I’m going to be 29 tomorrow :os I’m scared… although not as scared as I will be this time next year!

I bought an exercise bike for myself, it arrived yesterday. After much fun putting it together with half the required pieces available, I discovered the battery compartment was devoid of any connectors so I can only use it on the mains and it loses my settings whenever it’s unplugged. I’ve e-mailed John Lewis about it, but not sure what they can do. Might have to go direct to Reebok and get a replacement console. Not really very happy with that due to the amount of money it cost!

Anyhoo, I cycled away 201 calories yesterday, would’ve been more but it took me so damn long to put it together I was shattered and it was evening by then. Still, I guess that’s a chocolate bar. Unfortunately the saddle is the most uncomfortable thing ever. Last time I rode my bike I’d bought a new big squishy saddle. It seems I’ve been spoilt, sitting down right now is not fun!

Well, if any Readingites want to say hello I shall be in the Rising tomorrow night to celebrate getting old. I may go on somewhere else, but as I’m old now I might just get tired and go to bed ;o) I’ll probably be near the front (easy access to the volume) cos it’s the deaf DJ tomorrow night, and we all know how loud he likes his music XD

Village News

Was kept awake for hours last night while a police helicopter hovered directly above my house (got lots of phone calls asking what was happening). It was a bit mad, every time I opened my Velux windows, they were getting pushed shut again cos the ‘copter was right above us.

Our road’s now closed off, rumours are 2 kids got murdered and another stabbed :os There’s been an awful lot of stabbings in this area in the past 2 weeks….

[update]
It was 2 young boys (one 14, one 16), they’re local apparently. They were stabbed to death. Two 18yr olds have been arrested. :o( This sort of stuff doesn’t usually happen in such a small village. I’m used to it in Reading.

Just a quick post to say how much I love my download PC.

It sits on a table in my living room by a chair & doesn’t bother me at all. Every now & then I remote on (it has no monitor) and see how it’s doing. Today I found links to downloads of The Mighty Boosh Series 2, thought I’d better add them cos they’re no longer on BBC3’s website :o( only to find that not only had it found them already (gotta love RSS), but they’d finished downloading too!! \o/

Now what I really need to do is:

1) Get one of those media player things for the TV, the ones that connect to the PC via WiFi and stream whatever’s on there.

2) Sort out an RSS Feed of everything that ends up in the ‘Seeding’ directory. Will be useful to have so I can keep a check on all the stuff it’s doing. It currently e-mails me when it’s finished a download. I could probably get that e-mailing BackPackit or similar and keep a page open for that. Needs more thinking :oD

*Once again the disclaimer: Yes. I know downloading this stuff is illegal, but I only download TV Shows that aren’t available to buy, so I really can’t see the issue. It’s just like my parents recording a program to their DVD Recorder and passing it to me if I’d missed a show.

Really should have updated ages ago, but my phone line is being an arse :o(

Reading Festival was a good laugh again. Didn’t see a huge amount of bands, but Lemon Jelly Satanic Bingo was the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages, even when no-one won for a very long time! Queens of the Stone Age were quality as usual. Kings of Leon were superb. Met up with Fly from bit-tech again on the Sunday, albeit briefly (again) cos he’s a lightweight and scared of Marilyn Manson fans ;op Bumped into Scott and Leigh heading in to the site on the Sunday too which was a bit mental. Scott has bumfluff on his chin… what’s that about eh? Jeffers did have some fine Whisky in his hipflask. Although my hipflask was way better and contained Amaretto… so clearly superior ;o)

I am now full of cold and off work ill. I was going to try & remote in (I got on the VPN trials - no more RAS \o/) but my phone line is so poo it’s not worth it. Shame… hehe.

This bloody rocks, although I wouldn’t want it on all the time as you can imagine it hogs resources and would be bloody annoying, still cool though :oD
